CLAPA and the Caravan Club

November 4, 2014

Anne Pitchforth whose son and grandson were born with a cleft lip & palate was a founder member of CLAPA in 1970. Anne’s son Alex and grandson Ryan both went to Queen Victoria hospital in East Grinstead.

When Alex was born in 1969 there was no help for parents so with other parents Anne set up a support group between Queen Victoria hospital in East Grinstead & Great Ormond Street Hospital. Hence CLAPA was formed!

Anne very kindly put CLAPA forward to be part of the East Sussex Section of the Caravan Club fundraising for the last year. Members of the Caravan Club got involved over the year, attending rallies & other functions. They also raised money by doing raffles, holding a Charity Day, an auction of promises, smartie tubes filled with 20p coins and many other events & donations during the year.

Thank you to Alex, Ryan, Charlie, and dad Steve for accepting a cheque for £1750.00 from the East Sussex section of the Caravan Club. Charlie who is held on his dad Steve’s shoulder was born with a cleft palate.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Anne and all the members of her club for all their hard work. It is so lovely that a founding member is still supporting the charity!
