Research Opportunity: 3D Face @ Home Project
New Research Opportunity: 3D Face @ Home Project
Are you based near/in Dundee or Angus in Scotland? Would you like to help the 3DFace@Home project revolutionise facial 3D scanning for healthcare?
Researchers at the University of Dundee are seeking adults (18+) based in Scotland to take part in a new ‘3D Face @ Home’ project. This research will help develop a system to enable the capture of 3D facial models at home, enabling new research on facial features and related medical conditions. Their project aims to avoid visiting a clinic to scan the face of patients with specialised equipment and instead use their own smartphone from their house.
The outcome of this research will contribute to open doors to personalised medical care from home, reducing healthcare costs and environmental impact.
Criteria to participate:
- Aged 18+ and in capacity to consent
- Able to attend an in-person session at the University of Dundee
- Willingness to show your face from the neck up to the hair (included), and from ear to ear on the sides
- Absence of facial hair masking the skin such as beard or moustache
- Access to a device that can run our mobile application (Android and iOS based smartphones should work)
What you will do:
- Scan your face at home using a mobile app
- Attend an in-person 3D face scan at the University of Dundee
