Anahita Sharma is a medical student born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate in 1994. As a teenager, she received extensive orthodontic treatment, and underwent orthognathic surgery (maxillary distraction osteogenesis) and a cleft septorhinoplasty. Whilst she once struggled with her self-esteem, she managed to work through this with the patient support of her cleft team. She is experienced in discussing procedures and interested in speaking to young people about their personal experiences and concerns, hoping that all those born with a cleft can nevertheless reach their potential.
