My little boy had his palate operation in November and has refused liquid ever since, he developed an aversion to it as a result of the operation. He now seems to be off solids too and must admit I am really worried and frustrated, not knowing what to do. Has anyone else ever experienced this and did it ever improve? Right now I can’t see an end to it.

I see nobody replied to your post and I am just wondering if things have improved any for you.
My daughter had her cleft operation on Friday while she was in hospital she was feeding not to bad but since we got home it seems to be getting worse. She is refusing her spoon feed completely and will only take a few ounces of her bottle if she is medicated. I rang the cleft nurse but she is not really concerned because she has no temperature and her mouth is not bleeding, but I am so worried about her for this just seems to be torture for her. Any advice you could give would be gratefully received.

Hi,

Our little boy has just has is palate fixed and is ok with spoon but does not like the bottle at all.
Has anybody found a good way of re-introducing them to their bottle?

Thanks.

Hi everyone, I hope that things have improved for you all. My baby girl is 11 months now and has been through the lip and palate operations now. She was reluctant with her bottle too and would only take a little at a time after her lip repair but this did improve with time. She did eat well a few days after the operation and now there is no stopping her! I think you just need to persevere, I know how hard it can be and my heart goes out to you all. Best of luck and it will be ok xx
