Hi, my little boy is 5 months old and am thinking about starting to wean him, although I have tried a couple of times and I was just wondering if any other mums out there are unsure about wether he is ready or not, because when i did try spoon feeding him to me it seems that he wants to do it but his little tongue is in the way! He has what the surgeon calls a tongue tied little tongue which means his tongue is tied to the bottom of his mouth i think! and that is what is getting in the way, i think anyway, can any other mums help with this. He is still enjoying his milk and that is another problem as they say to give him half his milk and then offer him solids but lewis will not do that he likes his milk in one sitting or he lets you know! how do i get round this.

If i was you i’d just take it really slow with your little boy.  Keep his milk the same and just offer a couple of spoonfuls at a time.  My daughter Niamh has Pierre Robin sequence so her tongue sits very far back and she has limited tongue movement similar to a tongue tie.  Weaning her has been very hard work and slow.  She is almost 1 and we have just got onto 2nd stage jars!  But i’m trying not to worry as she still has plenty of milk.  Once your little boy gets used to the different textures and tastes i’m sure he’ll be fine.  Things will get easier the bigger he gets and the more practice he has with solids.  Niamh now has much better tongue control compared to 6 months ago
