Hey everyone, when I was researching for my upper jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) which I had recently - I found these sites most useful:
http://www.addenbrookes.org.uk/serv/clin/surg/oral/orthognathic.html - what is orthognathic surgery, what it involves etc.
http://www.widesmiles.org/cleftlinks/ - a massive website with loads from ‘positive thinking poems’ to many links to particular operations (such as bone grafts etc). Mainly aimed at parents with cleft children, but did find parts of it useful in terms of jaw surgery, both top and bottom.
http://www.cleft.ie/forum/default.asp - Ireland cleft society - a forum like face forward and clapa, but certainly not as well known, or updated. Mainly parental posts concerning feeding etc - but I still post on here just in case someone stumbles across it and not the larger cleft forums.
http://www.surgicentre.com.au/procedures/craniomaxillo/procedures_correctivejaw.php - Like the first link, is about orthognathic surgery, but also talks about lower jaw surgery. I found this quite useful, but not all of it fits in with what I’ve experienced myself. Does include pictures and detailed risks.
http://www.baoms.org.uk/CD-ROM/Information leaflets/maxillary osteotomy.pdf - You need Adobe Acrobat, but it certainly is well worth it. I wish I had taken a closer look at this website as it certainly is the most honest, up-to-date website. I’ve been able to identify with much of what I had read from this in terms of my own experience.
http://www.widesmiles.org/cleftlinks/WS-727.html - another person’s experience of upper jaw surgery, worth a read.
http://www.faceforward.org.uk/forums/adult/viewtopic.php?t=199 - My own experience - I’ve tried to be as detailed as possible - maybe even too much!
